Well here I am, sitting in my room, overlooking the city of Taichung, central Taiwan. Today is Sunday 24th February 2008. Let me start by telling you why....Why am I here? Why have I decided to write my blog?
I moved to Taiwan in the beginning of Autumn 2006. I am an English teacher and a foreign consultant at a cram school. I am a student of knowledge.
My life is colourful and chequered and my interests are wide and varied. My main passion in life is to travel. I have travelled extensively in Southeast Asia, The Middle East, Africa and Europe. My travels have taken me into the heart of people’s culture creating a strong bond with the richness of their diversity. I have grown to admire and understand the differences and beauty of culture and my thirst for their knowledge is huge. My life has taken me to Taiwan and I am in awe of the variety of culture this small Pacific island offers. My university degree was in Social Sciences, majoring in Anthropology. Anthropology has taught me to understand and respect the differences. Theory has taught me to recognise the smallest details. Geertz once wrote that it is the true anthropologist that can recognise the symbolic difference between a wink and a flickering eye. I believe that it is true in the hearts of all who have travelled to understand and respect the slightest details of the local people.
Firstly, I will attempt to go back in time, to share my previous experiences with you...
